⚠️Updated: May-29, 2023: Subo now requires permissions to ****Manage threads
, Send Messages in Threads
, Create Public Threads
and Create Private Threads
Please change the bot’s permissions in Discord with Server Settings
> Roles
> Subo the Survey Bot
> Permissions
This allows Subo to create and post in private threads and get rid of temporary channels. Private threads have a lot of advantages over temporary channels. They open neatly under the original message, are more private (they do not include server admins), and come with fewer limitations (no limit per server or category).
👇Scroll down for more information: why some permissions are mandatory, what the optional permissions give you, and how to change your permissions in your server.
Subo recommends the following permissions.
Recommended permissions
A few of these permissions are nice-to-haves to give you access to more features. Here is the minimum set of permissions, without which the app will not be working properly.
Minimum permissions
Let’s review permissions one by one.
Manage Roles (mandatory): this permission allows Subo to make temporary channels. Those are the private channels where people take multi-question surveys (see below) and where you can edit your projects, server settings etc, which is why the permission is mandatory.
The permission also allows Subo to create 2 optional roles, a ‘creator’ role and a ‘participant’ role.
/settings
command. It is highly recommended for larger servers with staff. Without it, only the server owner can create and manage surveys./settings
command.<aside> 📌 The Manage Roles permission is mandatory even if you don’t need Subo to create/manage the optional roles for you. This is only to make survey channels role-specific.

Manage Channels (mandatory): this permission allows Subo to create private channels such as the role-specific subo-creator channel in which private threads are created to interact with you to create or manage surveys, change the bot’s settings for your server. Without this permission, you won’t be able to use Subo.
Manage Webhooks (recommended): this permission allows Subo to send relevant announcements about the service on the subo-creator channel (which it will create for you unless you assign another channel). Without the permission, you will not be able to receive important updates and communications. Note that you can always turn off these announcements in your settings.
