⚠️Updated: Sept-15, 2026: Subo now requires permissions to View Audit Log

Please change the bot’s permissions in Discord with Server Settings > Roles > Subo the Survey Bot > Permissions

This allows Subo to view who installed the bot.

TLDR Minimum permissions required

• By checking all boxes suggested when you invite Subo, you will have access to all Subo features, current and expected, in your public channels.
• If you want to use Subo in a role-restricted channel, make sure that it also has all the right permissions in that channel.

A few of these permissions are nice-to-haves to give you access to more features. Here is the minimum set of permissions, without which the app will not be working properly.

Let’s review permissions one by one.

• Manage Roles (mandatory): this permission allows Subo to make temporary channels. Those are the private channels where people take multi-question surveys (see below) and where you can edit your projects, server settings etc, which is why the permission is mandatory.

  The permission also allows Subo to create 2 optional roles, a ‘creator’ role and a ‘participant’ role.

  • the creator role allows you to give other server members (mods or community managers) access to create, manage surveys and export full datasets. You can change the name of that role. This role is optional and is defined with the /settingscommand. It is highly recommended for larger servers with staff. Without it, only the server owner can create and manage surveys.
  • The “participant” role is an optional role which Subo gives automatically to anyone who answers your surveys. This is a way for you to reward your active members who take the time to answer your questions. This is optional and is defined with the /settingscommand.

  <aside> 📌 The Manage Roles permission is mandatory even if you don’t need Subo to create/manage the optional roles for you. This is only to make survey channels role-specific.

• Manage Channels (mandatory): this permission allows Subo to create private channels such as the role-specific subo-creator channel in which private threads are created to interact with you to create or manage surveys, change the bot’s settings for your server. Without this permission, you won’t be able to use Subo.
